What is Step Up Clackamas?

A student-led event that centers the experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth and students in Clackamas County, Oregon. The goal of Step Up Clackamas, defined by a student-led steering committee, is to create an accessible and impactful event that allows attendees to learn from each other and celebrate our communities, as well as provide youth an opportunity to share how Clackamas County can be a more welcoming place for everyone.

How can I participate?

Step Up Clackamas is a three-part event that includes:

If you are interested or know someone who is interested in being a student panelist, please email Khanya Msibi

Student Workshop on Giving Testimony (online and in-person; open to youth ages 11-18 only): This workshop is hosted by Next Up and will teach students how to share their stories in an impactful way that inspires change in their school and the greater community.

 

The art gallery is open for all community members, and families, where folks can enjoy photo booth, music, and experience art pieces depicting the places in Clackamas county students and residence feel welcomed in. Community members will also be able to participate in the project by adding their desires for Clackamas county in an interactive community art wall.

 

All-community event where community members and students can hear about the experiences of BIPOC student leaders. In addition, the audience will hear the stories of student leaders and what community members can do to better support BIPOC students in the region.

How can I help?

The registration form includes an option to sign up to volunteer on the day of the event (April 8th, 2023).
