The Coalition of Communities of Color is seeking a Communications Manager who is ready to advance our mission for racial justice by communicating our work and accomplishments, building and shifting narratives, and effectively engaging our many audiences to support systemic change for racial justice.

As CCC’s Communications Manager, you will be responsible for leading and executing our communications plan and strategy. Our work in research, advocacy, and environmental justice has impacted communities of color across our state by shifting systems, developing and passing policies, and engaging communities of color. The Communications Manager will increase the impact of this work by engaging effectively with CCC’s various audiences through all of our communications channels, including our website, emails, and social media. You will work across the organization to produce regular content that publicly presents our work in an accessible manner, including our research projects and reports, advocacy agenda, environmental justice priorities, and opportunities for engagement. As our communications lead, you will build a cohesive organizational identity to effectively communicate our mission and impact, and establish CCC as a leading voice for racial justice in Oregon.

Formed in 2001, the Coalition of Communities of Color is an alliance of culturally-specific community based organizations engaged in collective action for racial justice. Job Activities

In your role as Communications Manager, you will:

  • Lead CCC’s organizational communications efforts and create culturally relevant content that reflects our values and priorities 

  • Increase the impact of our advocacy, environmental justice, and research programs by voicing and publicizing CCC’s work and accomplishments through communications channels

  • Highlight the work of our coalition’s member organizations and individual stories through CCC’s communications channels

  • Identify strategic communications, messaging, and consistent branding to increase CCC’s role as a leader for racial justice in Oregon

  • Update and engage CCC’s audiences by creating regular written and visual content 

  • Keep our supporters and the broader public informed through email updates, social media, and website content

  • Broaden our reach and advocate for change by managing media relations, pitching stories, and drafting editorial content

  • Reach our key audiences through targeted communications and data, database management, and building our list of supporters

  • Manage CCC’s website to provide an online home for CCC’s research, advocacy, and environmental justice initiatives and serve as a community resources

  • Motivate supporters to contribute to CCC by collaborating on content for fundraising initiatives and event publicity 

  • Build community engagement and awareness through public-facing communications about our programs, research reports, and advocacy agendas

  • Add capacity to broader movements and coalitions by participating in their communications committees

  • Build capacity among CCC staff and key partners through media preparation and co-writing pieces for media publication

Qualifications

Required qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Two years minimum experience in communications, development, marketing, or other writing-intensive fields

  • Commitment to racial justice

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with colleagues and teams

  • Capable of identifying key strategies to advance organizational objectives

  • Self-motivated with strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to learn and  use organizational communications platforms (website, email, social media) and basic graphic design (Canva)

  • Ability to learn/navigate and use contact database systems (Neon CRM)

These qualifications are a plus:

  • Experience in communicating program accomplishments for systemic change, advocacy strategies, research, and/or fundraising

  • Strong racial and social justice analysis with knowledge of BIPOC communities and issues in Oregon

  • Community outreach experience, including making technical information accessibility

Compensation

This is an exempt position with a salary range of $64,500–$75,000.

Benefits include:

  • Paid time off: 15 days paid vacation in the first year of employment, increasing with tenure at the organization; 10 days of sick leave; 12 paid holidays and one week office closure in December.

  • Insurance: Medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance for the employee, with 100% of premiums paid by CCC.

  • Additional benefits: Flexible Spending Account (health savings and daycare), Transportation Savings Account, Employee Assistance Program, monthly phone and transportation stipends, and 100% employer-paid contributions for the Paid Leave Oregon program. Employees may enroll in a matching 401k retirement plan after one year of employment.

CCC also provides resources to support the training, skill-building, and professional development of our staff.

Work environment: Standard CCC work hours occur between 9:00–5:00 PM. Our office is located in Portland, Oregon close to transit and with a hybrid work schedule. The Communications Manager must live in or be willing to move within commuting distance of the Portland metro area.
